Hey there!
we wanted to build a S2D cluster and got these SSDs as cache:
https://www.hpe.com/emea_europe/en/product-catalog/servers/server-solid-state-drives/pip.hpe-server-write-intensive-wi-solid-state-drives.1010999580.html
HPE ProductNumber: P04543-B21
HP states that their enterprise-grade SSDs have powerloss-protection, but Windows doesn't pick that up.
PS C:\Users\...> Get-PhysicalDisk -SerialNumber 29xxxyyyzzzz | Get-StorageAdvancedProperty WARNING: Retrieving IsDeviceCacheEnabled failed with ErrorCode 1. FriendlyName SerialNumber IsPowerProtected IsDeviceCacheEnabled ------------ ------------ ---------------- -------------------- HP EO000800JWTCA 29xxxyyyzzzz False
We already built the cluster with the other capacity SSDs, without cache tier, with no problem.
All runs on DL380 gen9, cluster validator is clean, everything works as expected.
Only those SSDs can't be used as cache.
Soooo... is HP lying? Is their powerloss-protection fake?
Is this a firmware problem on the smartarray controller?
Can this be an issue of where you put your cache SSD? Currently they are in slot23+24.
We're at a loss...
