we've setup a windows server 2012 with fileserver role and windows search feature providing file based services. The share is indexed with limited file types (office and pdf) - only file properties.
The indexed search is basically working for our Windows 7 clients, but missing many files in most cases.
The behaviour depends on the method I used looking for "*.pdf" for example:
1. The share is mapped as a network drive to the user who has write permissions
Only small files (<32 kb) are shown.
2. The share is mapped as a network drive to the client with domain admin permissions
The search returns all files.
3. Domain admin logged in on the fileserver and searching directly
Only small files (<32 kb) are shown. In a directory with files less than or exceeding 32 kb, it will filter out 'big' files.
I would think of a permission problem, but the 3rd case makes me wonder. If I copy one of the big files to the same directory, the copied one instantly appears - strange. Index says that it is completed.
Any suggestions?
