Greetings,

My first post here.

I am wracking my brain trying to understand the following issue and could use some help.

I have a several Dell M600 Blade with MS2k8R2(x64) SP1 installed.  On one of the servers I am using iSCSI to connect both to a Dell Equallogic group and a Dell TL 2000 Tape library.  My issue is with the library.

The Server has 4 physical NICs...1 unused,1 for public domain traffic, and 2 for private iSCSI.

The iSCSIs connect me to the Equallogic and my Tape Library (iSCSI/SAS Bridge) and I have had no problem for the longest time with communication between all (Ips correct, subnet correct, no IP conflicts..etc)

I recently upgraded my firmware on the NICS (Broadcom BCM5709S NetXtreme II GigE) and that’s when the problem started.  The iSCSI connections between all servers and the SAN remain steady.  The Tape library connection keeps dropping (or hanging in a "reconnect" status after an initial successful connection. The system event logs show:

Target failed to respond in time to a Task Management request

Target did not respond in time for a SCSI request.  The CDB is given in the dump data.

And finally..Multiple successive

Target failed to respond in time for a login request.

I have researched and tried the following things:

-http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951037/en-us (disabling chimney offload)

-http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;981482 (Disabling ACK and Auto Tuning level)

-moving the connections to a different server (with the same results)

-rolling back the fw update on the NICs

-disable TCP offload and RSS on the NICs with iSCSI connections.

I had a similar issue awhile back and addressed it with Dell..they send me a new Bridge card which did not resolve the issue but moving the connections to another server (the current one) did…so I went with it. Now it’s come back to haunt me tenfold.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks
