I've been using a NFS share on my WS2012 box to server up media to my Plex server and Boxee box. When it works, it generally works well, but I've found that any time the server is rebooted, the NFS share gets totally screwed up. They'll usually appear to be there, but the Linux machine that Plex is running on cannot mount the share. Any attempts to modify or remove the share will result in one of several error messages - Can't delete share from registry, can't update share, etc - but after trying to remove the share then getting the 'can't delete share from registry' message, it (sometimes) goes away - same thing with modifying - it'll say it can't modify it and try again, but if I go back into properties, the changes that it supposedly couldn't make are there. Other times I'll get locked loop where I can't remove the share because it can't delete the share from the registry, I can't change it because it can't update the registry (along with try to modify it again), etc.
So far, I've had to redo the entire thing at least three times and there doesn't seem to be a pattern as to what actually works. The idea of a NFS server on Windows is a great one - however, 'Server for NFS' on Windows 2012 seems to be a flaming pile of junk - Does anyone have any suggestions for making it ACTUALLY WORK - and not require hours of screwing around to get it working again every time the server is rebooted? This isn't rocket science - It should not be any more complex to set up than SMB shares on the server side, and it I shouldn't be getting error after error when just trying to make, change or remove the share. I'm not sure that it's related, and I can't imagine that it is, but I do not have any user mapping agents installed - All I want NFS for is to grant R/O access - I don't care if that's to EVERYONE - I don't need to get granular with this NFS share. I should be able to narrow it down to IP address using the NFS share permissions, and even if I can't, it's not like any machine outside my LAN will have access to the NFS share...
