Our system state backup using wbadmin currently includes all volumes. One volume contains mostly data but a few applications are installed on it as well. The applications are non-critical for our BMR strategy so we want to exclude their paths from the system state backup and thus, remove one volume from the wbadmin -allcritical backup.
According to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980794, adding in the ExcludedBinaryPaths registry value should allow a path to be excluded from the system writer. We add this registry key using the path we want to exclude but it does not appear to have any impact. The hotfix is not applicable to our system since it is running 2008 R2 SP1. As a side note, we had to create the SystemWriter key since it did not exist under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.
Does this registry key still work in 2008 R2 SP1? How do we exclude a path from the system writer in 2008 R2 SP1?
