Options for creating a corporate mapped drive across multiple sites

Hi all,

I need some help, not long ago i asked my manager if we could revisit our current file server set up and replace with a new and more efficient setup. The proposal was agreed as we also had to do some other server upgrades so it slotted nicely in to that project.

So my idea was that between 6 geographical sites connected via 50 to 100 Mbit MPLS connections that we would have 1 file server in each local office and 1 in the datacentre fore backup purpose. Use DFSN to keep it easy and simple and DFSR to give staff local access to the corporate mapped drive Z:\.

Then I learned that DFSR does not support file locking so potential for loosing information if 2 members of staff edit the same file. Looked at options like PeerLock which comes with an extra price tag or BranchCache which we cant because we run Windows 7 Pro.

So i am a bit out of ideas now. if i have 1 file server in the datacenter + a replica and use that for the Z: drive then we make heavier use of the MPLS lines. Is this how others do? should we use SharePoint? but that is not cheap either and does that replicate around? Other WAN optimisation solution?
