Windows 2008 R2 base File Server Consolidation using Volume re-allocation

We have 3 windows 2008 R2 based file servers (Virtual Machines) with following configuration:

  • Each server has the data volume as D: drive which is a Spanned Dynamic volume having multiple 300 GB SAN drives attached.
  • The volume size on each server is about 3 TB.
  • The SAN environment is mirrored.

To consolidate the servers from 3 to only one server, instead of copying and moving data we would like to re-allocate the volumes i.e. detach the volume from two server and attach them to single target server as new volumes like E: and F: drives.

Would this be possible and if yes, what would be the exact steps and precautionary measures?
