Enabling S2D and Failover Clustering for SoFS

We are interested in using the S2D for creating a Failover Cluster and deploying the scale out file server.  In our testing, we have 4 plain jane computers running server 2016.  Each machine has 2 HDD @ 500GB each.  I understand that only one disk from each machine will be able to be used for the storage space. We are running into 2 issues. First, the disks are appearing with an "unknown" "media type" attribute. Second, when I run the cluster validation tests I get failed on the unknown attribute type but also a "Cannot Pool Reason" of "Insufficient Capacity". The disks are blank they are online but have no volumes/partitions created.  The drives appear under file and storage services in server manager as a primordial pool and if I add them to storage pools I can fix the "media type" issue, however, when I delete the pool the "media type" attribute is lost. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.
