I am having issues with trying to save Word and Excel files to a mapped network drive on local domain. When trying to save the word document or excel file I get the error "Windows cannot access \\Server\Folder..." "You do not have permission to access \\Server\Folder. Contact your network administrator to request access." This cannot be true because the user has full access to said mapped network drive "\\Server\Folder". The user also has access to create a new word document from the network drive "\\Server\Folder" but when opening the document they are not able to save the file due to same error. I called in for Microsoft support and the support agent told me that Microsoft Office Home and Business 2019 is not for domains or commercial businesses. I can assume they must have been mistaken. The office application is pre-installed from Dell and it is installed on a Windows 10 Pro OS.

Windows 10 Storage Spaces
Hello
I have been using Storage spaces for over 2 years without much of a problem until now.
I have 6 drives in the pool totaling about 10tb.
10 days ago, I was doing some clean up and deleted 350gb of data but the pool availability did not change.
I noticed that the recycle bin was full so I figured that I need to empty it out. Well that's where it went wrong.
Since emptying the recycle bin, the storage space drive disappeared from the windows explorer. I can see the drives are "working" and if I go in Storage Spaces, it is showing all 6 drives are in good condition with about 70% capacity. All options other than rename are grey out.
Now it has been 10 days now and I re-started my computer once to see whether it did any good, well no, it did not.
Does everyone knows what's wrong or should I just wait it out for the pool to sort itself out.
Please advise.
Many thanks in advance

Server 2012 R2 File Server Stops Responding to SMB Connections
Hi There,
Massive shot in the dark here but I am struggling with a pretty major issue atm. We have a production file server that is hosted on the following:
Dell MD 3220i -> iSCSI -> Server 2008 R2 Hyper-v Cluster -> Passthrough Disk -> Server 2012 R2 File Server VM
Essentially 3 times now, roughly a month or so apart. The file server stops accepting connections. During this time, the server is perfectly accessible through rdp or with a simple ping. I can browse the files on the server directly but no-one appears to be able to access the shares over SMB. A reboot of the server fixes the issue.
As per a KB article I removed nod antivirus from the server to rule out a conflicting filter mode driver after the second fault. Sadly yesterday it happened again.
The only relevant errors in the servers log files are:
SMB Server Event ID 551
SMB Session Authentication Failure Client Name: \\192.168.105.79 Client Address: 192.168.105.79:50774 User Name: HHS\H6-08$ Session ID: 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Status: Insufficient server resources exist to complete the request. (0xC0000205) Guidance: You should expect this error when attempting to connect to shares using incorrect credentials. This error does not always indicate a problem with authorization, but mainly authentication. It is more common with non-Windows clients. This error can occur when using incorrect usernames and passwords with NTLM, mismatched LmCompatibility settings between client and server, duplicate Kerberos service principal names, incorrect Kerberos ticket-granting service tickets, or Guest accounts without Guest access enabled
and
SMB Server event ID 1020 File system operation has taken longer than expected. Client Name: \\192.168.105.97 Client Address: 192.168.105.97:49571 User Name: HHS\12J.Champion Session ID: 0x2C07B40004A5 Share Name: \\*\Subjects File Name: Command: 5 Duration (in milliseconds): 176784 Warning Threshold (in milliseconds): 120000 Guidance: The underlying file system has taken too long to respond to an operation. This typically indicates a problem with the storage and not SMB.
I have checked the underlying disk/iscsi/network hyper-v cluster for any other errors or issues, but as far as I can tell everything is fine.
Is it possible that something else is left over from the NOD antivirus installation?
Looking for suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further.
Thanks

SYSVOL Migration from FRS to DFSR in a Multi-Domain Forest
Currently SYSVOL replicates via FRS and the team are planning to migrate to DFSR
I've done some research and reading for FRS to DFSR migration however, it only refers to a single domain forest SYSVOL migration, to run on PDC emulator domain controller. There is no specific procedure or process for a multi-domain environment which I assume to run it from the PDC emulator in every domain?
Questions:
a. Do I need to run this from each individual domain, and if yes, is there a recommended order?
Storage spaces resize after physical disk size change
Hi,
I have set up 2 nodes failover cluster using amazon ec2 instances and storage spaces(2 x windows 2016 servers).
After I resize physical disk I am not sure if it is possible to see this change in storage pool.
If I run command Get-PhysicalDisk it is showing to me the same size.
FSRM how can I classify files but owner folder name (server 2016)
I have a file server with folder shared to users
I need to classify file to move some of them to an archive folder
Classification must be done by last access time and specific words on the folder path
For example, all file in this folder:
d:\shared\2019\01\FC1\project1\... must be classified because \FC1\ is on path
or
d:\shared\2019\01\FC2\project1\... must be classified because \FC2\ is on path
but
d:\shared\2019\01\FC9\project1\... must be excluded
I have a list of specific folder sub path I have to use for classification, like3DF" - "NC"
- "POF" - "STOCK" - "REPORT" "VERICUT" - "VNC"
Is there a way to do this classification?

Setting up data access on VM
Hi everyone,
I have a question about setting up File Services.
On my physical server (Host) I have 3 drives (let's call them C, D and E).
C drive is of course where the main Host OS installed with Hyper-V role, etc.
D drive is where I have pointed Hyper-V to save my VHD's, snapshots and whatever else my VM's would need.
E drive is where I plan to have all the Data.
The host is used for Hyper-V role only and all other services (AD, RDP, etc) will be installed on the Guest. But I don't want to have the Data inside the VM because if it crashes/fails or Guest OS simply becomes unusable then it will be a pain to extract the Data out from the VHD. So I believe it's better to have the Data on that E drive.
So the question is what's the best way to link the Data on that E drive from the Host to the Guest? Should I add is as a disk via VM settings? Or should I create a Share on the Host and then map the path to it as a network drive on the Guest? Any other options?
And I obviously want to have all the benefits of the File Server including Shadow Copies and Previous Versions, etc. So another question is where should I install File Services role for this to work best? On the Host or on the Guest? Or both?
Thanks everyone in advance.
Disk management remotely is not refreshing
Hi there.
I am trying to figure it out why disk management connected to remote computer does not refresh on actions.
Scenario:
I got 3 machines hosted on Win 10 Hyper-V:
VM1: Windows 10
VM2: Windows 2016 datacenter - desktop experience
VM3: Windows 2016 server core
On all the three machines I have disabled Windows firewall on all profiles.
I have installed RSAT on VM1: Windows 10 machine (it's 1809 build).
In server manager I can add machines to be visible to each other.
And from server manager I can open computer management of remote computer just fine and also disk management console is opening fine, but what bothers me that any action that I do on that remote computer with disk management is not being refreshed.
For example if I create a new volume on remote computer with disk management that changes are not automatically seen in the console, neither if I press refresh or rescan disks.
The changes are only seen in situation when I close computer management console, and then reopen it.
What's the catch?
Opening locally disk management on each of the 3 computers reflects changes immediately, but only when I use remote disk management this does not happen and I am trying to figure it out what could be the reason?
Permission required from other users
Hi everyone!
In a shared folder i receive this error:
the user acquisti has lower privileges than mine, because i'm an administrator.
In the properties i have this:
Why do the user "michela" has the full control?
in mine WS2012 i'm an administrator, and she's only a normal user. How can fix this?
DFS Permission
Greetings,
I work for Microsoft Partner and i am in process of deploying DFS file server in customer side. I have some inquiries:
current setup:
Existing one file server (2012 R2) using normal sharing folder. Shared folders mapped manually on each user PC.
Scope:
install DFS on the same file server and install another DFS file server (2012 R2) for high availability.
My inquiry
I need to know steps needed to achieve the scope noting that existing file server have many shared folders using Server name UNC path.
I search over the internet deeply i found many blogs taking about File server migration tool, robocopy, xcopy but i am confused of the steps in sequence.
Is Robocopy working in Win 10???
I'm trying to use robocopy (as I have always done) to transfer data to another hard drive, but it doesn't seem to be working. I am not getting an error, but it is not transferring data or showing that it is transferring data. As far as I know, my path is correct! Has Microsoft done something to Robocopy so it no longer works?
Thank you,
Todez
Work Folders - How to configure Windows Authentication login when computer is inside LAN corporation
Hi
I deployed Work folders using this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/pl-pl/windows-server/storage/work-folders/work-folders-overview. In this article is useed the same DNS zone for Intranet and Internet (split DNS zone) so External URL and Backend Server URL for work folders service are the same. It is usefull when Work Folders settings are deployed by GPO but in AD FS settings URL for Internal and External URL for work Folders are the same.
Primary Authentication list AD FS for Intranet contain Forms Authentication and Windows Authentication. With Windows Authentication users using domain user account don't need to write password for Work Folders. But the have to. It looks like they use Form Authentication when computers are in Internet or in company.
In step "Publish the Work Folders web application" author useOAuth2 authentication (https://docs.microsoft.com/pl-pl/windows-server/storage/work-folders/deploy-work-folders-adfs-step4).
During configuration Work Folders on computer (https://docs.microsoft.com/pl-pl/windows-server/storage/work-folders/deploy-work-folders-adfs-step5) there is a sentence:
If the user is connected to the corporate network, the authentication is performed by Windows Integrated Authentication.Jeśli użytkownik nie jest połączony z siecią firmową, uwierzytelnianie jest wykonywane przez usług AD FS (OAuth) i zostanie wyświetlony monit o poświadczenia. If the user is not connected to the corporate network, the authentication is performed by ADFS (OAuth) and the user will be prompted for credentials.Wprowadź swoje poświadczenia, a następnie kliknij przycisk OK.Enter your credentials and clickOK.
How system or Web App Rpoxy recognise if computer is connected to corporate network or not?
How to set it up Windows Integrated authentication (when computer joined to AD domain) when computer is connected to corporate network?
Kind Regards Tomasz
S2D- Replacing one defective SSD drive with bigger size?
Hello all!
Configuration-> Failover File server cluster in S2d with 2 Dell server with 2 "internal" drive for OS, 4 X 1.4TG SSD for caching/Journal, and 8 X 4TB for Data
Currently, Server 1 is providing file access to the users.
On server 2, we got a warning of one of the 4 SSD being "dead". Contacted Dell and a replacement drive was sent BUT bigger then the original (i.e. a 1.9TB instead of 1.6TB).
Called Dell and talk to different support personal and was told it was OK to replace with the bigger one (although I still had reservation doing it).
Now I find myself wondering if all my Cluster and S2D is still correct since when I check, the "new" SSD shows up as the usage being "Automatic" instead of "Journal" as the other SSD drives in both servers.
Did I do (or not do) somethin wrong and should I worry?
Should I "remove" the new drive from the Storage pool and re-add forcing it's usage to journal?
What will happen if I have a failover (or manually switch around) between the servers in their current state?
Thanks all for any opinion, advice comment you may provide me with.
My regards
Serge Ayotte

DFSR replication with one hub and two spokes
Hi
I have a few questions about DFSR replication.
I have inherited a dfs setup with a windows server 2008 r2 as a hub server and two windows 2012 servers as spokes.
They are in 3 different locations.
What happens if dfs replication service is disabled on the hub server.
So the server is still online
It appears the two spoke servers are still replicating to each other.
Will this delete data or will it try and force the two servers to be the same.
Say if a folder is on one server but not on another will it delete it.
WHat happens when i bring the service back online on the hub server.
Need to turn it off to perform a backup
thanks
Jimi
S2D Cluster - Added additional nodes - using NVMe drives not used for Journal
An additional two nodes with the same number and type of drives have been added to the cluster. When I look at the clusters physical drives I can only see the new NVMe drives not the SSDs. Under enclosures, I can see the enclosure for the NVMes. I cannot see the enclosures for the SSDs. The new NVMes have been allocated to the "Automatic" with the SSDs from the other nodes, not "Journal" as they should have been.
When I look at Disk Management on the new nodes the SSDs are not initialized. I believe this is a requirement for S2D. I assume this step was possibly missed the engineers.
I am first of all looking for confirmation that the missing SSDs (and enclosure) are due to them not being initialized?
I understand that S2D will allocate any faster drives to Journaling. Can anyone confirm that in this case the new NVMes have not been allocated to Journal as S2D does not see anything "faster" than them on the new nodes and so they are allocated to the same pool ("Automatic") as the SSDs on the other nodes?
And finally what would be the next steps? I understand S2D handles tiering and journaling automatically. So to resolve this would we just need to initialize the SSDs and let S2D sort things out? Will the SSDs then be allocated to the correct pool ("Automatic") and the NVMes be removed from Automatic and moved to Journaling?
Thanks in advance for your any help.
Server 2012 Two-Way Mirror Storage Space Displays Incorrect Capacity
I have 3 drives in a thin provisioned 2 way mirror storage pool running in Windows Server 2012 Essentials. The pool has 6.36Tb of capacity and is provisioned for up to 8Tb. Manage Storage Spaces shows 4.26Tb of used space, yet the Dashboard shows 535Gb of Used Space. I can confirm the Size on Disk is 535Gb by using Explorer to check properties of the drive.
Screen shots are attached, any ideas? Should I try an optimize-volume with defrag or retrim or something?
Thanks, Jeff
