Problems sharing symbolic link

I have a requirement to create a symbolic link (mklink /D) on a Win2k8R2 server to a remote UNC path. I can do this fine, and from the server I can browse the link ok once created. I now need to share this link and make it available to all Domain Users. Creating the share works ok, and I assign Domain Users change rights to the share. From the server, I can browse the share fine, but anyone on the network trying to access the share get an 'permission denied' error. I've checked and re-checked all the share/folder security which is ok. I've also tried using Everyone rather than Domain Users on the share permissions with the same problem. All clients and the server have L2L, L2R, R2L and R2R symbolic link permissions enabled.

Surely what I'm trying to do should be possible, so if anyone can assist I'd be grateful. I can't in this instance use 'mklink /J' as this only works on local volumes, and not UNC paths.
