I have a Windows 2012 eight node cluster. One of the nodes has 20TB of direct-attached storage (not my idea). All the rest have only local system drives and use a dedicated shared storage array (a set of EqualLogic 6110s).
I want to make better use of the direct-attached storage by using some of it as an iSCSI target. I wouldn't use it to host any clustered roles, so I don't want to cluster the target. I understand if this one host goes offline, the target will be unavailable. For the ways in which I'm going to use the storage, that's acceptable.
I've added the target role to this host, and it appears in server manager, but I'm unable to add targets. I can launch the "new iSCSI virtual disk wizard," and it seems to scan for a while, but it only returns "no eligible servers are available."
Is it possible to use this role on a cluster member, but in a non-clustered way?
