Setup:
- Windows Server 2012 XEON proc (running at about 5% capacity), 16GB RAM;
- Internal Perc RAID controller (raid 5 with 2 partitions, OS and Data - OS @50%, Data @ 10%, pagefile on Data)
- External 5 x 1TB USB 2.0 disks.
Original Config:
- Storage Pool contains all 5 external Drives
- VHD configured to use all 5 drives in a parity disk
Situation:
- One external drive failed.
- I added another 1TB disk to the pool, removed the old one, and hit repair disk on the VHD in Server Manager
- Nothing Happened.
- Read online that I needed enough available disk space aside from the original VHD to copy the entire disk - so I added 5 more 1TB disks to the Pool
- The Server crashed (no idea why) and wouldn't reboot.
- Disconnected the external drives and recovered the OS.
- Reconnected the external drives and Pool Manager recognized them, but the VHD was no longer "Attached" to the server. So I selected Attach. Progress bar shows active and 24hrs (roughly) later, the VHD now shows as Attached, but unhealthy.
- So I select Repair (again). This time, the repairing shows up, in the line in Server Manager, next to the VHD, for about a minute (never leaves 0%) and then goes away.
- Right clicking on the VHD shows that it is again Detached from the server.
- Rinse and Repeat has the same results.
- WTHIGO?!!!!
Can anyone point me in the direction of some way to recover this parity VHD?
