Items not being found in drive search

Good morning

I am currently experiencing an issue on a windows server 2012 standard machine.

My issue is that I cannot seem to find files in a folder on one of the shared drives when searching for it. I can find some of the files when I search in the folder that they are located, but even then it does not display all of the results. When trying to search from folders above this in the structure, no results are displayed.

The drive is indexed, and I have tried rebuilding the index once already. This has only helped slightly.

What further action can I try to get these files showing up?

Manage Sessions fils share

Hi,

I was using server 2008 r2 previously where  "Manage session" option was available in share and storage management, which I failed to find in server 2012 R2, If someone knows how to enable it or view current sessions with user names; it will be a great help.

Ricoh Aficio MP C2051 Scan to Folder - Windows Server 2012 Error: Authentication with the destination has failed check settings

$

0

I have recently upgraded a clients servers to Windows Server 2012 & since doing so have lost the ability to scan to folder.

Both servers are domain controllers and previously on a 2008 domain controller I would have had to make the following change to allow scan to folder:
 Administrative Tools
 Server Manager
 Features
 Group Policy Manager
 Forest: ...
 Default Domain Policy
Computer configuration
 Policies
 Windows Settings
 Security Settings
 Local Policies
 Security Options
Microsoft Network Server: Digitally Sign Communications (Always)
 - Define This Policy
 - Disabled

However I have applied this to the Windows 2012 server but am still unable to scan, possibly due to added layers of security in server 2012. The error on the scanner is Authentication with the destination has failed check settings.
I have also tried the following at the server:
Policies -> Security Policies
Change Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to: Send LM & NTLM - Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients and uncheck the require 128 bit.
Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers and uncheck the require 128 bit
I have created a user account on the server for the ricoh and set this in the settiings of the Ricoh and verified everything is correct.

Are there any other things I have missed?

B.com  -- New server installed with windows 2008 r2 /2012 r2

File server on  A.com(File server with DFS service enabled) I want to move all the Files and folder to new domain.

Need to remove all the file security permissions including Inherit folder, I have couple of folders under 3 level down which is restricted access(removed inheritance) I need to remove those folder access.

Windows Server 2012 R2 wouldn't response SMB Negotiate Protocol Request

Hello

I've got an windows 2012 r2 as a file server,  it worked fine with windows client but not with lunix-based client

I first discovered this problem on an Android phone:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/b3a8a7f9-f4b7-4b9f-b586-2ec87fc14d71/cant-access-shared-folders-on-win-2012-r2-with-android-phone?forum=winserverPN

then I did some test on a newly installed lunix OS on a VM today, I found that my server do not response SMB Negotiate Protocol Request from my phone or the testing OS at all.

when I try smbclient -L ServerIP, I get

read_socket_with_timeout: timeout read. read error = Connection reset by peer.
Receiving SMB: Server stopped responding
protocol negotiation failed

the wireshark capture are like this:

Win2008 R2 sharing violation while adding new mirror for existing boot disk volume

Instructions at the two links below describe how to mirror an existing boot disk for Win2003 and Win2008 respectively:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc783353%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

http://www.techotopia.com/index.php/Mirroring_Windows_Server_2008_R2_GBT_and_MBR_Boot_and_System_Disks

Both sets of instructions are substantially the same and both involve an xcopy step copy create a copy of the EFI files. However, numerous people (and now me) have reported that Windows reports a sharing violation when attempting to do this, on the EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD file. The entire operation is invalidated because of this sharing violation.

How to overcome it please?

DFS namespace high availability

Hello,

I have two servers 2012 R2 :

- Server1 is an AD with DFS namespace & replication.

- Server2 is regular server in the domain (not a secondary domain controller) with DFS namespace/replication.

So my domain name is : example.priv, and my share : \\example.priv\SharedFolder .

Some shared folders are sync between both server.

I added Server2 in the namespace servers.

My goal is to have high avalaibility if my Server1 goes down, i still want to access to the share.

if i ping example.priv it returns Server1's IP.

When i stop the Server1, i cant have access to my share anymore, because example.priv resolves only to Server1.

I need example.priv to resolve to Server1 and Server2 (round robin?)

How could i setup my environment to have access to my share when Server1 is down?

Thank you,

Server 2012 shared folders available offline

Good afternoon

We have a windows 2012 standard server which at present is having issues with file searches, not finding files that can be seen present in the windows explorer search. The index has been rebuilt but this has not helped.

Another workaround this issue is to make the folder that is trying to be searched available offline and index the offline files to see if this helps. However I cannot see the option to make a folder available offline, would someone be able to tell me how to do this?

The server has the file and storage services role partially installed, with the Storage services and the File and iSCSI service file server feature installed.

Due to this causing problems and frustration for users, assistance in this matter would be appreciated.

MoveSecurityAttributes in Server 2012 R2

Hi,

Does anyone know whether the MoveSecurityAttributes registry setting should work in Server 2012? In 2008 you could enable this to make moved files/folders inherit permissions from their parent. But I can't get it working in 2012.

2008 needed a a hotfix (kb/2617058) to get it working, though - reckon I can install this on 2012?

(can't add links till I'm verified, sorry)

Cheers,

Andrew

File Server Replication through WAN

I will be getting a new server to replace our Windows 2003 file server and the users from a remote site like to know if I can add a replicating server to their site.  Our main file server server is located in Texas and the remote site is located in Florida.  They currently access the file server through Cisco ASA VPN.  There are 5 users and they do Solidworks, so they usually do them locally and the files are large.  They then copy the file to the main file server and sometime that cause issue with the toolset that they use.

Basically, does anyone know a good way to do replication in real time between the two sites if I get identical server for each site?  Site A changes will get replicate to site B and vice versa?  Thanks and appreciate the helps.

Configuring File Screen Template command actions via powershell

Hello everyone,

I am trying to configure File Server Resource Manager via powershell.  I am having problems creating a new File Screen Template with a command action.  I would like the command to run a BAT file and pass the [Source Io Owner] variable as an argument to the BAT file.  I have tried placing my BAT file in various locations due to the "0x80045317, The specified path is insecure" error but I also get a "0x8004530d, The specifiec property is out of range".  I also get this error when I run the cmd.exe command and invoke my BAT file through arguments.  I have researched this errors extensively and there is little to no details about what would be causing them online so I am turning to these discussions as a last resort.  Here are the powershell commands I have tried and their results:

DFS Replication overlap on 2003 R2 Domain controllers

I am having an issue with replication issues for a DFS namespace I have shared between two server 2003 R2 Domain controllers.  I am receiving Event ID 6402:

Event Type:    Error
Event Source:    DFSR
Event Category:    None
Event ID:    6402
Date:        7/16/2015
Time:        11:44:12 AM
User:        N/A
Computer:    <DC1>
Description:
The DFS Replication service failed to initialize replicated folder D:\DFSShares\<DEPT_A> because the service detected that one of its private folders overlaps with an existing File Replication service (FRS) replica set. This is an unsupported configuration.

Additional Information:
Overlapped Folder: \\.\D:\DFSShares\<DEPT_A>
Replicated Folder: D:\DFSShares\<DEPT_A>
Replicated Folder Name: <DEPT_A>
Replicated Folder ID: 88752AB2-6CE0-452F-BD97-F054CCF2E0B7

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I would like to continue to replicate this namespace through DFS, but cannot find instruction how to disable and remove entries for this folder for FRS replication.  This being a domain controller I can't disable FRS...

I have seen this post:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/05eaf591-9089-4d58-b7e7-06c38155cd90/dfs-and-file-replication-service-on-windows-2003-r2-server?forum=winserverfiles

but the resolution does not work for me.  the "<DEPT_A> folder is listed, but is showing as replicating (it has the blue circle on it's icon) and it lists the paths for the root targets and "enabled" in DFS Referral column.

Currently the folder is not replicating and I need to get it working as this is an often used resource for both locations.  Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

RoboCopy Job File Analysis

Hi,

This is a job file I brewed up over several months to backup my win 8.1 PC nightly.  Being retired, I'm sadly disconnected from my colleagues in IT, and at this point, in need of another set of eyes.

THE QUESTION:  Does the following job do everything I need to enable restoration ofmy precious data in the event of total loss ?  I've tried to exclude unnecessary (useless) data.   There is also a logical use of /R:2 /W:2 which I have not researched.

This is an excerpt of the Run Log, and thank you for your kind attention.    -ss

Hi All,

However, the customer does not have exchange server and is using gmail server for business email. In this scenario, how can we configure email notification for FSRM. in the configuration windows, it always ask for IP address or host name of the smtp server.

All Server version is 2008 R2.

NTFS rights groups only

Hi, I have a question regarding NTFS permissions. Is it possible to have permissions for groups only? Thing is I've created some tree structure with inheritance and specified groups - some groups have rights read only, some have modify. No full control. Once my domain users start creating their own folders, they have full control rights for their newly created folders and are mentioned in ACL by their name. Also, they are owners of such folders. Is there any way how to keep my folder structure clean from individual user names?

Thank you

Petr

Hyper-V CLuster - SMB 3.0 File Sharing - How many Shares? How many Volumes?

$

Consider the following HV Failover Clustering scenario:

2 HV hosts based on Win2012R2 Std English

1 FileServer based on Win2012R2 Std English (yes, only one, but it´s a non-production environment)

Storage for VHDs in File Server is based on 6 X 1TB SATA disks and store the .VHD files in an hardware-based/controller array

All 3 machines using 4 net adapters, 1 heartbeat, 2 (team) for SMB 3.0 operations and 1 for management

1) How many shared folders should I use, to store all VHD files? There is an advantage on creating several separated SMB 3.0 file shares to share the VHDs? Considering a big array, using all 6 SATA disks, creating a single volume, there is a gain, in using, for example, 3 shared folders \\fs\share1, \\fs\share2, \\fs\share3, to build the cluster?

2) Should I create a big array, using all 6 X 1TB disks to create a big array, or should I create, for example, 3 X 2TB arrays, each one sharing a folder, like \\fs\Volume1, \\fs\Volume2, \\fs\Volume3?
