DFSR - Database Corrupt

$

Hi,

We recently ran into a problem where our File Server ran out of space and DFSR was abruptly stopped. Our DFSR configuration is a hub and spoke configuration and the problem server is our hub server. THe Server is constantly circling through three errors as below:

Source: DFSR
Event ID:2212
Error: The DFS Replication service has detected an unexpected shutdown on volume D:. This can occur if the service terminated abnormally (due to a power loss, for example) or an error occurred on the volume. The service has automatically initiated a recovery process. The service will rebuild the database if it determines it cannot reliably recover. No user action is required.

Source: DFSR
Event ID: 2104
Error: The DFS Replication service failed to recover from an internal database error on volume D:. Replication has been stopped for all replicated folders on this volume.

Additional Information:
Error: 9214 (Internal database error (-1605))
Volume: 7DA06443-AD3C-11DE-8C05-806E6F6E6963
Database: D:\System Volume Information\DFSR

Source: DFSR
Event ID: 2106
Error: The DFS Replication service successfully recovered from an internal database error on volume D:. Replication has resumed on replicated folders on this volume.

Additional Information:
Volume: 7DA06443-AD3C-11DE-8C05-806E6F6E6963
Database: D:\System Volume Information\DFSR

And then the circle starts again with the first event indicationg that DFSR has shutdown uncleanly. It's looking like a DFSR rebuild, but I'd love to know if I can repair the DB without resorting to this. Any suggestions on how to resolve the corruption?

How to extent FSRM Storage Reports limit of 100 files to more on 2003

Hi.
On our fileservers we have Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2. In
“File server resource manager” we would like to run a storage report. We are
interested in the report “Files by File Group” and more specific we have
selected the file group “Executable Files”. We have tested different report
formats but regardless of format the report are limited to the top 100 files.
The exact message is: “More than the maximum number of files per group
matched the report criteria. Only the top 100 files are shown in the
following file groups:”

We don’t won’t this limitation but can’t find where the settings are that
control this. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

EFS sharing with multiple users on network file share

OK, here goes nothing

2K8R2 DFL / 2K8R2 file server

2 test accounts both enrolled for EFS cert & file server is enabled for kerberos delegation

both accounts can encrypt files on network file share. Both accounts have local profiles on server.

question: how in the heck can access to multiple users be set up?

I have exported EFS certs for each & imported into trusted people store (also tried importing to Personal & Other People stores). I right-click file | Advanced | check 'Encrypt contents to secure data' | OK | Apply | Advanced | Details | Add | select user | OK | OK | Apply | OK... I attempt to open file with user for whom sharing was just enabled and receive "Access Denied".

If I don't get this working soon, I my leap out the window (and I'm on the fifth floor).

Oh, and I realize there are better solutions for this. The thing is that my manager disagrees.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

hi all,

Currently, we have Windows 2003 file server and evey user has home share \\fileserver\%username%$ and all users' shares are on the drive G.

Now, we need to move users' shares to Windows 2012 file server.  Just wonder whether it is good time to switch DFS?  BTW, we have only one file server.  with DFS, can users use\\fileserver\%username%$?

Ask your insights on this.

Thank you.

Images becoming corrupt through shared areas

Hello,

I'm experiencing a strange problem where images become corrupt when accessing the shared area from another server.

File server (W2K12) is on the *.*.2.0/24 subnet and on the int.domain.co.uk domain (Child)
The other server (W2K12) accessing the shared folder is on the *.*.1.0/24 subnet and on the domain.co.uk domain (Parent)

I have set the permissions so that I can access the shared folder from the other server, and the only files so far that seem to be corrupted are image files. I can still 'view' them, but the images are distorted.

JPEG images become discolored and skewed
BMP images have what can be described as 'dead pixels'
GIF images become skewed

This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this, any help would be appreciated :D

Many thanks,

Chris

Server 2008 R2 EISA Partition

At some point soon I will need to extend the partition for the C drive and was thinking about using the EISA partition. I know this partition is sometimes used for recovery but it appears it was never set up because it shows 100% free space. Or is the EISA partition used in some way that it needs all that free space?

Currently the option to extend the C partition is grayed out. If I format the EISA partition will I then be able to extend my C partition?

Cannot delete file.

I have a file which cannot be deleted (or otherwise modified).  It always says Access is Denied.  When attempting to view owner, it says it cannot be displayed.  I cannot take ownership, attrib, icacls or anything upon this file without being told Access is Denied.  I am indeed signed in as Administrator, whom created the file (via download).  What happened, and how can I delete it?

File server replication setup?

Hi,

I have file server (Rather a server with a shared folder).

I want to implement another server (these are vm's on hyper-v 2012) and ensure some sort of replication between both servers such that if I change a file on one server, it is mirrored to the other.

Would this be DFS-R? VMs are running Windows Server 2012.

Thanks

Hi

i want to Create a San storage for My hyper-v Server ; one of them is server 2008 and the other is Server 2012.

I use iSCSI target for this purpose using this link

Introduction of iSCSI Target in Windows Server 2012

1.Enable iSCSI Target

2.Create iSCSI LUN

3.Configure iSCSI initiator to logon the Target on both Server

4.Create new volume on one Server 2012 and in the other Server the Volume show .

the problem is ?

When i copy file to this volume from server 2012 , this file doesn't show on Server 2008R2.

Can you tell me this is problem or it is True?

Best regards

File in shared folder not accessible for one user

$

Hello all,

At the moment our file server (w2k3) has a shared folder structure. Folders, subfolders and files inherit permissions from parent andEveryone has read, write, execute permissions.

There is one domain user (W7) who can't see a certain file in one of those folders even though the file inherits its permission from the parent folder. Every other file in this folder he can access.

The solution I found was to make a copy (thus the same permissions?) of the file (in the same folder) and suddenly the file was visible. However when I renamed the copied file to its original name, it disappeared again for that user!

Is there an explanation for these anomalies or have I overlooked something?

DFSUtil fails to create target folder but GUI does

Hi all, trying to use DFSUTIL to create some DFS links along with their associated shares. This would be the equivalent of creating a new folder in the namespace and specifying a share which doesn't exist as your target. The DFS console warns you that it doesn't exist and prompts you to allow it to create. This works flawlessly in the GUI.

Now I'm trying to script some of these things out using DFSUTIL from the command line and I can create the target and add links just fine, but the folders referenced never show up in the file system.

DFSUtil.exe link add \\mydfs.name.local\share\XYZ \\server01\share\XYZ

The result is that the command completes successfully. I can see the link is there and it's correct. Everything checks out, the GUI confirms this. The only difference is the folder specified in \\server01\share\XYZ never gets created. The link in the namespace shows up just fine at: \\mydfs.name.local\share\xyz but it's unclickable since it's referencing a target which doesn't exist.

If I later issue a target add command:

DFSUtil.exe target add \\mydfs.name.local\share\XYZ \\server02\share\XYZ

That also completes successfully. However, just like the previous case, I see the added target in the GUI and properties on the actual namespace folder confirms it's in there and it's correct, however, as the folder doesn't generate on the target server, the link itself is invalid.

I've tried appending the -restore command line switch and doesn't seem to be any different with or without. The worst part of this is that I know it was working before.

Many thanks in advance,

AJM

Cannot delete ‘file name’: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name Error

We are currently experiencing an issue when offline files  is enabled and either the Desktop or My Documents  is redirected to our SAN via GPO.   The redirects are  \\server\users\%USERNAME%\documents   and \\server\users\%USERNAME%\DESKTOP.  If I go to My Documents or browse to the unc patch \\server\users\%USERNAME%\documents and attempt to delete a file we get the following error: “Cannot delete ‘file name’: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.” The file however, does get deleted off of the server. If we proceed to disable offline files and manually go to \\server\users\me and create files and attempt to delete them we have no issue. The issue is not replicated on Windows 7 Clients.

We also have an issue when copying from a redirected share or UNC name to a drive mapped on a regular server.   When copying from \\server\users\%USERNAME%\DESKTOP to say a mapped P drive, we get the following error:  Cannot Copy <file> Cannot find the specified path.  Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.   If we copy the file one by one this does not happen.  But if we attempt to copy an entire directory that will happen.  It does however, create the directory on the destination server.  User has full permissions to the destination file share as well.  They can manually create a folder and file.

User has Full permissions to their network folder and have been granted ownership

Hello,

Despite of installing File Server Resource manager from where I can set quota on folders, this option is not available in the Advanced mode of the "add Share..." wizard;

It only says : "No quota templates are available on this server. "

But they are available in FRM.

What am I missing here ?

File Server Resource Manager - Report Font Very Small

$

We just upgraded to Server 2008 and added FSRM for reporting.  On the 2003 servers the reports looked fine.  When I have the report format setting set to DHTML or HTML on the 2008 server the font is so small in the report output that it is unreadable.  Any reason why this happens on 2008 and not 2003 and is there any fix to enlarge the font.

SMB Share Question

Let’s say we have a server named Server1 and another named server2
There’s a share on server2 called \\server2\share.
Now on the client I put Server1 in the host file and give it server2’s IP Address.
So I try to access the share on server2 with\\Server1\share.
The error received is Logon Failure: The Target name is incorrect.
Of course if I use server2’s IP address \\10.10.10.11\Share or\\Server2\Share it works.

I’m guessing for some reason the Target name in the path actually has to match the target name of the server, but why and is there a way around it?

Need to remove deny

Deny has been accidently put on a folder in Server 2012. Even as an administrator we are not able to access the folder. We have tried to take ownership, but because of the explicit deny we are unable to do so. How do we reverse this?

DFS - enable Windows Server 2008 mode

$

We currently have a mixed 2003/2008 forest and domain. We are migrating to a new 2008 domain but need to get DFS going before we get rid of  the old 2003 DC's. What functionality will we be missing out on by creating the DFS without 'Server 2008 mode'? I've read the articles saying,

Windows Server 2008 includes the ability to create a domain-based namespace in Windows Server 2008 mode. Doing so enables support for access-based enumeration and increased scalability.

but that doesn't exactly explain what functionality will be missing. I'm hoping someone here can enumerate...

TIA!
